Although the village of Kassiopi on Corfu is small and compact it lacks nothing when it comes to charm and hospitality.By day the village is quite and sleepy…..but by night it comes alive with it’s own unique atmosphere.

The Square is the heart of Kassiopi and life revolves around it.

Kassiopi Square - Kassiopi Corfu

Many picturesque lanes adorn Kassiopi village to add to the already natural beauty of the place.Sometime in the 5th century the temple of Kassios Zeus was conveted to a Christian church to honour the Holy Mother – Panayia Kassopitra.

In 1530 a young man called Stephanos was accused of robbery and was condemned to be ‘blinded’, after his punishment his mother took him to Panayia Kassopitra where he stayed overnight and when he awoke the next morning his sight was fully restored.

In 1537 the church was burned to the ground by the Turks, it was restored between 1590 & 1591.The new church had two altars to accommodate both Catholic and Orthodox religions and inscriptions on the church bear the dates 1590, 1670 and 1832.
